Payment statuses explained
What pending, succeeded, underpaid, needs review, failed and expired mean, and what to do about each.
Every payment has one status. The tabs at the top of Payments filter by them and show how many each one has.
The statuses
| Pending | Waiting for the customer to pay, or for their transfer to confirm. |
|---|---|
| Succeeded | Paid in full, or accepted by you. It's final, and the money is in your wallet. |
| Underpaid | Less arrived than was due, beyond your underpayment tolerance. Checkout asks the customer for the rest. |
| Needs review | Money arrived in a way that needs your decision, such as after the quote expired. |
| Failed | A card payment that didn't go through, or an API payment you canceled (shown as Canceled). |
| Expired | The quote ran out before any money arrived. |
What to do about each
Most payments go from pending to succeeded on their own. Two statuses need you, and Home counts them under Needs your attention:
- Underpaid: wait for the customer, request the remainder or accept what arrived. See underpayments and overpayments.
- Needs review: accept the payment, or send the funds back from your wallet. See payments that need review.
Overpaid isn't a status
When a customer sends more than was due, the payment succeeds and the whole amount lands in your wallet. The payment's details show the extra.
An expired payment that gets paid
If a transfer reaches an expired payment's address within 7 days, the money still lands in your wallet, and the payment moves to Needs review so you can decide what to do.
